Begin Act One! Moss Hart’s Story Unfolds On Stage with Santino Fontana and Tony Shalhoub

Pulitzer Prize winner Moss Hart has an impressive collection of writing credits, including A Star is Born, You Can't Take It With You and The Man Who Came to Dinner, not to mention a Tony Award for directing My Fair Lady. Now, it’s time for his own story to come to the stage, as Act One begins performances at Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont Theater on March 20.

Tony nominees Santino Fontana and Tony Shalhoub will share the role of the playwright, portraying him at different stages of his life and career, along with Matthew Schechter. The cast also features Tony winners Chuck Cooper and Andrea Martin, who will (presumably) leave behind her Pippin aerial tricks.

Fontana recently appeared on Broadway in Cinderella. His other Broadway credits include The Importance of Being Earnest, Brighton Beach Memoirs, Billy Elliot and Sunday in the Park with George. Shalhoub has appeared on stage in Lincoln Center’s Golden Boy and Conversations With My Father. He has also taken the stage in Lend Me a Tenor, The Heidi Chronicles and The Odd Couple.

The play, based on Hart’s bestselling autobiography, is directed by Tony Award winner James Lapine and officially opens on April 17.
